Eddy Merckx waited until he was done racing. 1980, Belgium, and Ugo De Rosa helped him set the shop up, which is a fact the Merckx pages mention and the De Rosa pages treat as a footnote. Ridley bought the company later when it was struggling. They still make Belgian road bikes, and gravel now, and the name is still his.
