Maurizio Fondriest put his name on carbon frames after he retired in 1998, which is a clean story until 2006, when Cicli Esperia bought the company. He still shows up in the marketing. It's an Italian road brand with a racer's name and a group-company factory behind it, and that is the version that actually happened.
