Andries Gaastra left Batavus after his father sold it and invented a name by gluing his wife's surname to his own, Koga in Heerenveen in 1974. Miyata built the frames for decades, which is why older bikes say Koga Miyata and people argue about whether that's Dutch or Japanese. The company is Dutch, and the catalog is road and touring and gravel.
