Kona started in Ferndale, Washington, which is the American side of a scene that also claims Vancouver. Dan Gerhard and Jacob Heilbron, 1988, and they kept offices on both sides of the border long enough that the origin depends on who you ask. It is a Pacific Northwest brand. The Hawaiian name is branding, and they were never from Hawaii.
