Ben Serotta was building custom frames in Saratoga Springs in 1972, long before custom was a brochure word. The company sold and came back, and the name still means that upstate New York shop, steel first and then the later materials once riders asked for them. People argue about the late years, but the origin is the Saratoga shop, not that argument.
