Werner and Wolfgang von Hacht started Stevens in Hamburg in 1991 as a parts wholesaler that also sold its own mountain bikes. The road catalog came after, which is backwards from how the race pages tell it. They are still in Hamburg, making road and CX and gravel and mountain, and they never really did the founder-myth thing.
