Surly is QBP's house brand. Minnesota distributor, Bloomington, and they invented a steel name so they could sell cheap, ugly frames next to the fancy stuff in the catalog. That's the whole origin, not a Minneapolis builder who got acquired. A warehouse brand that accidentally became a cult, Cross-Check and Karate Monkey, the usual suspects.
