Alcide Basso was already brazing frames in the family garage before anyone filed the paperwork. That was Rettorgole, Vicenza, mid-70s, and the company date everyone prints is 1977, which is when he registered it, not when he started. His brother Marino was the world champion. They still make Italian road bikes, and gravel now, still in that part of the Veneto.
