GT

GT is Gary Turner. He welded BMX frames in California for his kid, and the mountain bikes only showed up after the BMX company already existed. People treat GT like it was always a dirt brand, and it wasn't. Southern California BMX, then MTB, then the long corporate chapter, Schwinn and Pacific and whoever owns the letters this year. The origin is a dad with a welder.
